Overview

About number porting services

Porting numbers should be the boring part of changing telephony provider, but most businesses have a horror story. Telappliant runs a structured porting practice with named project coordinators, formal cut-over windows and pre-flight checks against your losing provider.

We handle every UK number type - geographic 01/02, mobile 07, non-geographic 03/08/09, and large multi-line ranges. Single-line ports typically complete in 5-10 working days; multi-line ports in 15-20 working days from the date we receive a clean authority document.

Pre-porting validation catches the issues that usually cause delays - mismatched trading names, addresses, or numbers held in subaccounts of the losing provider. We do this before submission so the port either runs on time or doesn't run at all.

Cut-overs run in a scheduled window, typically between 10am and 1pm. We aim to minimise interruption, but expect a short outage of no more than around 5 minutes as the number transfers between the losing and gaining providers. You choose the window and we confirm it with the losing carrier in advance.

After porting, every number sits on the same platform as your wider voice estate, with the same routing rules, recording policy and reporting. You keep the right to move your numbers to another provider at any time under Ofcom General Condition C7. Telephone numbers themselves are allocated to communications providers under Ofcom rules, not owned by end users, but your right to port them is protected.
