How long does it take to get connected?

SoGEA and FTTP are typically installed within 10-15 working days. Managed Ethernet leased lines usually take 30-90 working days depending on whether external wayleaves or civil works are required.

What is the difference between SoGEA and FTTP?

Accepted Answer

SoGEA still uses copper for the last mile and is capped at around 80 Mbps. FTTP is full fibre into the building, offering up to 1 Gbps with much higher reliability. Where FTTP is available we recommend it over SoGEA.

What actually is an Ethernet leased line?

Accepted Answer

A dedicated private fibre circuit between your premises and our network. Bandwidth is uncontended (not shared) and symmetric, so upload and download speeds are identical and consistent.

Which carriers do you use?

We provide the best-in-area option from Openreach, CityFibre, Virgin Media Business and TalkTalk Business, so we can offer the fastest sensible speed at any UK postcode.

What about the January 2027 PSTN switch-off?

Accepted Answer

Every Telappliant connectivity recommendation is already PSTN-ready. SoGEA replaces FTTC + line; voice moves to cloud calling over your data circuit. We plan and project-manage the cutover across your estate.

Will jitter and packet loss affect my phones?

Accepted Answer

Yes - high jitter causes choppy or robotic VoIP audio. Our circuits are optimised for low latency and minimal jitter, and we mark voice traffic with QoS so it is prioritised end to end.

Can I keep my existing router or firewall?

Accepted Answer

Usually yes. We can supply a managed router and SD-WAN appliance, or hand off Ethernet to your existing firewall. We'll confirm during the design call.

Do you offer 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps services, and where are they available?

Accepted Answer

Yes. 2.5 Gbps runs on a 1 Gbps or 10 Gbps bearer, and 5 Gbps runs on a 10 Gbps bearer, with burst up to the port speed on FibreLight. Availability depends on the carrier serving your postcode - the fastest coverage today is on CityFibre and Openreach XGS-PON footprints. On FibreBright (dedicated leased line), 2.5 Gbps and 5 Gbps are delivered as uncontended, guaranteed bandwidth on a 10 Gbps bearer.

What contention does FibreBright use?

None. FibreBright is a dedicated, uncontended (1:1) leased line - the full committed bandwidth is guaranteed end to end, 24/7. That is the key difference from FibreCore (8:1 contended full fibre) and FibreLight (symmetric with 20% of speed guaranteed and burst up to the bearer). FibreBright is the right choice for contact centres, hosted voice at scale and any workload where performance must not degrade at peak.

When does broadband failover backup apply and what does it include?

Broadband failover backup adds a second fixed-line broadband circuit (typically FibreCore or SoGEA) on a separate carrier where possible, with a dual-WAN router that fails over automatically if the primary link drops. It is the recommended resilience option where 4G/5G mobile coverage is weak or where large data volumes make cellular impractical. Included: the secondary circuit rental, dual-WAN router configuration, and automatic failover with our 24/7 monitoring. Excluded: separate static IPs on the backup line and QoS mirroring, which can be added on request.

How does SecureEdge DDoS protection work?

SecureEdge is always-on DDoS detection and mitigation at our network edge. Traffic to your circuit is continuously baselined; when a volumetric attack is detected, malicious traffic is scrubbed upstream in seconds so it never reaches your router or firewall. There is no added latency in normal operation, no hardware to install and no client software. Included: 24/7 mitigation, monthly reporting and incident summaries. It is available as an add-on to FibreLight and FibreBright, and comes bundled with FibreLight Plus.
