About shared-cost 084 and 087 numbers
Since Ofcom's 2015 unbundling changes, calls to 084 and 087 numbers are made up of an Access Charge (set by the caller's network) and a Service Charge (set by the number owner, capped by band). You must display 'Calls cost Xp per minute plus your phone company's access charge' on any material advertising the number.
For most new customer-facing lines, 03 or 0800 is a better choice because it removes caller-cost objections and Ofcom-mandated disclosures. 084 and 087 remain useful for particular legacy estates, PSA-registered services and revenue-share models where the business case is well understood.
